About Yoga On Roatan

Yoga on Roatan has been offering yoga classes, retreats and workshops since it´s creation in 2005. Founded by Susan Jensen, from South Africa, and Marcia Walker, from USA, and beginning as an idea after the first yoga retreat taken by 12 friends looking for a ´break´, it has transpired into something so much more....As a service to the community of Roatan and it´s visitors we will help you find a yoga class on the island, from the West end to the East end, and everywhere in between! As well as keeping you informed about what is going on within the Bay Islands and surrounding areas.

With a wealth of experienced and interesting teachers being drawn to this very special area in the world we have had numerous enlightening and transforming workshops enjoyed by many living here on Roatan. With areas like Copan, Pico Bonito and Rio Cangregal on our door steps it is only natural that whatever we do is an experience not to be forgotten...

Bethany Joy is our resident instructor and is teaching at the new MIND & MOVEMENT CENTER just opened at Mcnab Plaza in French Harbour.Through her teaching Bethany Joy strives to show the many beautiful facets of yoga and not just the asana practice. She enjoys bringing the real world into her own practice, and shares these experiences through her teaching so that each student can possibly take a lesson learned on the mat, "off the mat". "I encourage each student to appreciate their strengths...and accept their weaknesses. This is where you begin to find your true Self. And this is where you find yoga." Joy completed her 250-hour teacher training at My Health Yoga in Australia, under caring and extremely talented eyes of Carrie Ann Taylor. Joy has also completed workshops and retreats in various countries around the world with many talented Teachers.

However, her teaching is most influenced by the dynamic vinyasa-flow teaching style of her teacher and inspiration Shiva Rea, with whom she has completed a Prana Vinyasa Flow teacher training.

Hatha based prana Flow classes offer a full and varied spectrum of experience from rejuvenation to empowerment with constancy in the awareness of the unity between the wave motion of breath and bodily movement. Joy's classes are creative and invigorating and she encourages her students to challenge themselves to their own degree in order to build strength, fluidity and serenity in their own bodies and minds.

Please browse our site and let us know what you are looking for...we can help you find what you need to make your stay on Roatan everything you are hoping for...and so much more. Whether that be a meditation with dolphins, yoga on the beach, trans dance, Garifuna cultural experience, or a Mayan Priestess...we have it all!!
